Exclamation Accidents

Sorry for such a long post...

Zoe (my now 12 week old boxer pup) is being crate trained. She does great when I am home out of the crate. She will ask to go out (walks to the back door and wimpers) and has only had maybe 2 accidents in the last month inside while im with her. Mainly because the cats scared the pee out of her..litteraly. When my hubby gets home from work its a whole different story. Last night for example... She was crated for about 2 hours extra than she normally is because I needed to go to the store and run errands. Well when my hubby got home she did the normal butt wiggle and was happy (we take her out after a lot of excitement). About 20 minutes after she went out and went potty (we are still giving treats and praise for going outside) she ended up peeing in the livng room! And she gives absolutely no signs of having to potty. She just looks at us and there ya go.. wet spot. I crate trained my basset hound and he had some accidents but never like this. He had them when unsupervised every second. Zoe just pees. Not sure if its something I am doing wrong or if its just puppy being puppy. If this only happend a few times I wouldnt worry about it, but 98% of the time she has accidents its when the hubby is home... And she will have like 6 in the matter of 30 minutes! Like I said she does none of this when only I am home, but add the hubby to the mix and im cleaning pee

Could be any number of things.
Perhaps the routine she has gotten used to with YOU isn't being followed when hubby is home.
Could be excitement pee.
Could be that she isn't getting watched as closely either by hubby or by all when he is home.
Timing is off when hubby is home, etc...

If she is truly peeing 6 times in 30 minutes and you aren't exaggerating out of frustration, I'd be concerned about a physical problem.

You may also want to try supervising her water intake.

Or watching how long you're locking her up.

the 6 times in 30 minutes is true.. yesterday was the first time she ever did it that many times... its not a lot but like tennis ball size. I told the hubby that I am much more consistant during the day when he isnt home so I thought she might just not know to ask when others are around. I took her to the vet today because the peeing 6 times in 30 minutes worried me. Nothings wrong with her medically. I am the primary person with her so I am sure from the one time i caught her in the act and ended up scolding her made her a little scared to do it around me.. and as a matter of fact during writing this she got off her bed (chewing on one of her toys) and tried to potty, I litterally took her out no more than 3 minutes ago. Its just very strange..ive never had this problem with any of my other dogs. I know shes only been doing the potty training for 4 weeks, but the hubby is already against having dogs in the house and she's not helping change his mind right now Thank you so much for the responses! Right now I could use all the help I can get!

As for the water intake... I have been trying to see how much shes drinking since shes started doing the oopsie's I have an automatic filtering cat bowl thing..and zoe has her own regular water bowl. But I do know that she prefers drinking out of the cats water because im sure its fun to lick a sphere that has cold water running all over it. How much water is too much? Shes pretty active already, I take her on 5-10 minute walks once a day when its cool as well as play and chase each other in the yard for a good 10=20 minutes at a time, about 4 times a day (hubby takes her out like 1 time to play like that before she eats dinner). She normally goes through atleast 1 bowl of her of water. which is probably like 2 cups of water. and then some of the cats water... like I said im running out of ideas on this. So I appreciate everyones input on this!

The cat waterer needs to be put in an area Zoe doesn't have access to. Then you need to put her on a watering schedule. That means you put down water and then pick it back up. She should have water available during meals, when she wakes up and when she gets done playing/exercising. That's plenty. When she's trained, you can put the bowl back on the floor and not worry about it.

It sounds like she's not finishing when she's outside.

Put her on a leash, take her to a spot in the yard and tell her to go potty (or whatever words you're using). Because you're going to supervise her water intake, you should know about how much she has to go.

Make sure you're separating potty time from play time and make sure she isn't so excited to get back in the house and get a treat she's squirting outside and then heading back in. Simon got into that habit and there are still times he comes barreling back in the house and I have to tell him to go poop. Right back out he goes like 'oh YEAH'. lol

Good that there's nothing physically wrong with her. It's very odd for a female to piddle that often...see that more in boys.

How was she whelped? Were they kept in a box? Did the people get them outside at all? I'm curious if they were paper trained and/or allowed to urinate on the floor.

Thanks so much Nicole!

I will be putting the cats food and water in the room she is not allowed in. I didnt think of limiting water intake because I have never had to do it in the past. As far as the whelping goes...she was put outside for most of the day with her litter mates (once old enough), but brought in at night. When they were small the breeder used wee-wee pads. So I guess I am having to break her of the habit of going whenever and wherever since she had little to no regulation on where she could potty before. So far the rest of the day went well even with hubby home. We have decided that I will take her out when im the only one home (duh), and when he gets home he will take her out. So maybe she will understand that its expected from both of us.

I havent put her on a leash to potty only because she will follow me to where she needs to be doing her business. I will start with the leash though. Play time and potty time were seperate already.. I would take her to potty and then come in for a short while then take her out with a couple of toys and start playing.

Hopefully this doesnt last long she is a very quick learner and hasnt given us much trouble other than this. Thanks for the advice and I will let you know how its going!
Again thank you so much Nicole and Cami for you input!

Same problem I had with Simon and his brother :) They were born outside, lived outside with basically no instruction. They went whenever the urge struck. She's going to take longer than normal to potty train but she'll get it. You just have to be hyper-vigilant and super patient :)
